Chicago police to get Tasers and preparing after shootings


Police in Chicago are to get new gear and preparing on the most proficient method to defuse pressures taking after a spate of lethal shootings of African-Americans by officers, the city's leader has said.

He said police must realize when they can utilize a firearm and when not to do as such.

Dissenters have encouraged Mr Emanuel to venture down over a case in which an officer lethally shot a dark young person.

"Because you prepare that you can utilize power doesn't mean you ought to," said Mr Emanuel. "Helping officers make that refinement - and the preparation that runs with it - is key."

Mr Emanuel said the office would make 1,400 Tasers accessible to officers, up from 700.
